Our Mission
The American Hip Institute Research Foundation (AHIRF) drives research that revolutionizes the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of joint pain. We carry out this mission by advancing groundbreaking science and sharing our findings with the medical community and general public.
Arthritis is an inflammation of the joints that causes severe pain, stiffness, swelling, and limited mobility. In the United States alone, 54 million adults and over 300,000 children suffer from this condition. The impacts go far beyond the immediate pain:
- People with arthritis represent half of all individuals with an opioid prescription in the United States, greatly contributing to the prevalence of opioid use disorder.
- Losing mobility is losing a livelihood—1 out of 25 adults in the US face work limitations due to arthritis and the condition remains a leading cause of work disability nationally.
- Nineteen percent of adults with arthritis report frequent mental distress and 32 percent have a history of depression.

Minimally Invasive Hip Arthroscopy
A procedure in which a small instrument is inserted through a small incision into a joint to check for damage and repair it simultaneously. This life-changing operation gives patients immediate relief with pinpoint accuracy while enabling shorter recovery times and greatly minimized pain levels.
Robotic Hip Replacement
Utilizing the latest technology, this technique uses 3D models of patient anatomy combined with robotic guidance to ensure perfect hip replacements that will get patients back on their feet, and back to their lives.
Orthobiologics
Involves the implantation of harvested orthobiologics to a damaged joint, which promotes the natural healing of tissue, giving patients the chance to cure their condition without requiring surgery.
